Dr Michael Hugo Pritchard MRCP, FRCP

Consultant Rheumatologist

Dr Pritchards had a full clinical and teaching timetable in two Cardiff hospitals over twenty-five years. He continues to carry out a varied research programme, has published 38 mainly first author papers in leading international journals (list available on request or on entrez Pub Med) and have lectured frequently to GPs, graduates and undergraduates, both locally and nationally, on a range of general and specific Rheumatology topics. He has also regularly presented papers at national and international Rheumatology conferences and medico-legal meetings, and has regularly attended and participated in national specialist meetings on work related disorders.

Although he has carried out research programmes in many areas of rheumatology, his main current clinical, research and medico-legal interest is in personal injury, in particular the diagnosis, origins and causes of work related upper limb disorders (WRULD, RSI). He has been instructed on a wide variety of rheumatological and musculo-skeletal complaints. The former usually require an opinion on the interaction between rheumatic disorders and injuries, the latter being personal injury/WRULDs, including industrial injuries and vibration related complaints (HAVS). He has also reported on back injuries and chronic pain syndromes, increasingly road traffic accidents when there is a potential relationship between underlying systemic disease and recent injury to be evaluated or the client has developed prolonged symptoms. He has also been instructed on an increasing number of clinical negligence cases where there has been a rheumatological aspect, either as a primary rheumatological disease or a component of a more generalised condition.
