Dr Andrew Boon
Dr Andrew Boon MBChB MD FRCPath DipHSM is a Consultant Histopathologist and Cytopathologist with sub-specialist expertise in Skin Pathology, Gynaecological Pathology and Cytopathology.
His NHS Practice is based at St James’s University Hospital, Leeds and he practices privately at Nuffield Hospital Leeds and Spire Hospital Leeds. He is currently Medical Lead for the West Yorkshire Cervical Cytology Screening Service and a core member of the Leeds Cancer Centre Melanoma and Colposcopy MDTs.
He is a member of several professional societies, including the British Association for Cytopathology, the British Society for Dermatopathology, Melanoma Focus and the British Association of Gynaecological Pathologists. He is also a member of the Expert Witness Institute.
He qualified in Medicine in 1981, was Lecturer in Pathology at the University of Birmingham from 1983-1990 and moved to Yorkshire as a Consultant in 1990. His previous roles have included Deputy Medical Director, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Laboratory Inspector/Assessor for Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Ltd. and Director of Professional Standards for the Royal College of Pathologists.
He has extensive experience as an expert witness in his areas of sub-specialty practice over the past 20 years. Previous cases have related mainly to the following areas of clinical negligence:
• Skin cancer, especially malignant melanoma
• Ovarian and uterine cancer
• Cervical cytology screening
