Mr Andrew Logan


Mr Logan is a Specialist Hand and Wrist Surgeon, appointed as a Consultant Hand Surgeon at the University Hospital of Wales in 2007. He has established a specialist surgical practice that is supported by a team of specialist hand therapists. He receives tertiary referrals for hand conditions from other hospitals in South Wales.

His elective and trauma practice exclusively involves conditions and injuries affecting the hand and wrist. This includes sports injuries, hand, wrist and forearm fractures and soft tissue injuries. On the elective side this includes all hand and wrist conditions for example carpal tunnel and other nerve release operations, Dupuytren's contracture, trigger digits, arthritis surgery, joint fusions and replacements and wrist arthroscopy.

He has been involved in medico legal work since his appointment as a Consultant in 2007. On average he receives between 120 and 150 instructions each year. These include personal injury claims for the Claimant, Defendant or Joint. He receives instructions for work related conditions such as hand arm vibration syndrome. He is also instructed as an expert for medical negligence cases for the Claimant or Defendant. He will only do reports that relate to his specialist field of hand and wrist.

As a specialist he is on the editorial board of the European Journal of Hand Surgery. He is also Chair of the committee that runs the British Diploma in Hand Surgery. This is a diploma that backed by the University of Manchester and is a highly sought after qualification for senior hand trainees who will become specialist hand consultants. He has written chapters on wrist fractures for orthopaedic text books and scientific articles from his own research.
